Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi, Russia

The XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia

The XXII Olympic Winter Games will be held from February 7th to 23rd 2014, in Sochi, Russia, with some events in the resort of Krasnaya Polyana. All 98 different exercises in 15 winter sports disciplines will be arranged.

In addition to that it is over 30 years since Russia last hosted Olympic Games (Summer Olympics in Moscow 1980), Sochi will be an unusual place for the Winter Olympics. Sochi is located along the Black Sea in southwestern Russia. Known for the beautiful Caucasus Mountains, with snow-capped peaks that can be seen from the gorgeous beaches. Sochi has a subtropical climate that not only provides a lovely location with sandy beaches, but also has perfect snowy mountains for the Winter Games.

On the occasion of the Olympic Winter Games, Central Bank of Russia submitted an extensive program with several great coin releases. The main series is a series of 16 silver coins that present athletes in their chosen sports and the coins also shows an endemic plant of the Sochi area.

These coins are all 3 rubles, silver content 925/1000 and weighs 33.94 grams (1 oz. pure silver), the diameter 39 mm. The coins in Proof quality and mintage is only 35,000 coins of each issue.

The first 8 coins in the main series is already released and demand to get the coins were big. Fortunately that we've managed to secure a limited number of the main range of 16 coins and offer these coins in a subscription program.
