LONDON and the Olympic Games

1908 Summer Olymics were the fourth modern Olympic Games and the first to take place in London. The 1908 Games were scheduled to take place in Rome, but the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on 7 April 1906 required the Italian Government to redirect founds away from the Olympics. The event took place between 27 April and 31 October 1908, with 22 nations participating in 110 events.

1944 Summer Olympics were scheduled to be held in London, they were cancelled due to World War II.

1948 Summer Olympics were the first to be held after World War II, with the 1944 Games having been cancelled due to the war. Showing a collective unity after the war, 59 nations competed in 136 different events between 29 July and 14 August 1948. Germany and Japan had not been invited due to security reasons.

2012 Summer Olympics are planned to take place between 27 July and 12 August 2012 in London.

With the vision: We will use the power of the Games to inspire change, the Games of the XXX Olymiad, both the Olympics and paraolympics are prepared for 26 different Olympic Sports in 34 venues and additionally 20 Paraolympic Sports in 21 venues. Some 10.500 Olympic athletes and 4.200 Paraolympic athletes will participate from 205 nations. More than 20.000 media representatives and they are planning to sell 9 million tickets.
