Copy of Norways first banknote from 1695
This numisletter has been issued in commemoration to the 300th anniversary of the death of Jørgen thor Møhlen, the man who got the permission from King Christian V, the King of Denmark/Norway to issue Norways first papermoney in 1695.
Jørgen thor Møhlen died 25. December 1708 in great poverty, in spite of the fact that he was agreat trader, shipowner and apointed as Director of Commerce by the king.
This banknotecover consist of a copy of the first note originally issued for the 300th anniversary of the first banknote by Norges Bank's noteprinting company. The cover has part of a picture from old Bergen. On the back is a picture of thor Møhlen and a copy of the decree issued by the king accepting the issueing of the notes, as well as a short description.
The stamp was issued in 1995 at the 350 years for the Post, depicting old coins and notes and was cancelled at Bergen Centrum Postoffice on the 27th December 2008 (first working day after Christmas)
