KING OLAV V - Crowned in Nidarosdomen - 50 Years
On the 22nd of June 2008 it was 50 years since King Olav V was crowned as The King of Norway at Nidarosdomen. (The Cathedral in Throdheim). The ceremony in Trondheim in June 1958 proved not only the Kings sense for tradition, but also his Christian feith.
The Prime Minister Gerhardsen wished to have a ceremony as simple as possible as he said the time for such a ritual was passed. The King still wanted to have this ceremony his way. For the King this ment more than a festive occation to start his regent period. This was a personal testimony the King had to give to expressed his will to serve his country and his people.
In Nidarosdomen, the national holy place, which is built on the grave of Olav the Saint, this commitment become very strong for King Olav V, who also carried the name of the Saint as the King.
This numisletter is composed from historical objects importent for coin and stamp collectors. The beautiful stamp showing the ceremony in 1958 and a 50 kroner silver coin showing the Kings portrait.
