Saturday 12th. Feb. 2005, H.M. queen Sonja opened the reserch station "Troll" in Queens Maud Land in Antarctic. This was the first time any person from the royal family had wisited Queen Maud Land. In addition to the official opening of the station this trip was the first official flight to Antarctic, with the Queen onboard. This first flight was not without dramatic event. Strong wind stopped the Qn. first attempt to fly to the Antarctic and they had to return to Cape Town. Next day the weather was better and they succeeded the flight without any problems. The airfield where they landed was made of blue ice close to the Norwegian station. This airstrip can now take heavy intercontinental airplanes between South Africa and Queen Maud Land.

We have issued this numisletter to celebrate this event. The numisletter concist of a 5 dollars Antarctica note with portrait of Roald Amundsen which was the firs man to reach the Sout-pole on the 14th dec. 1911.
The stamp on the cover has also a portrait of Amundsen and a map of Antarctic. This stam was issued in 1973 in connection with the 10th anniversary for the Antarctica Treaty.

In corporation with the Norwegian Postal Service the letter is cancelled on the official day for the opening, 12.2.2005 with the special cancellation used only this day.
