The European Union (EU) had originally 15 member countries. On the 1st january 2002, 12 of these countries started using the EURO currency. (Denmark, Sweden and UK did not convert to this new currency).
After this another 12 new member countries have joind EU and as pr. 1.1.2011 five of these new members had converted to the EURO where Estonia is the latest member, joining the 1.1.2011.
As pr. today a total of 17 EU-member countries are using the EURO and additionally the Vatican, San Marino and Monaco also have their EURO currency.
