PRINCESS KYNINSKA FROM SPARTA – SHE TWICE WON THE OLYMPIC HORSE RACING
Horse racing and chariot racing have long been regarded as the most attractive sport competitions by the spectators in the Hippodrome beside the Olympic Stadium.
The track length was 400 meters and the horse racing was performed in the double distance i.e.800 meters. Furthermore it was not allowed to use a saddle or stirrups in the riding competition at the Olympic Games. Interestingly – the owner of the Horse was called the winner of this Olympic disciplinenot the rider itself!
Racing horses belonged mainly to noblemen. The only exception was the horsewoman Princess Kyninska – she did twice win the Olympic competition on her own horse! Therefore she was honoured and depicted as a rider statue.
