After exactly 50 years the Olympic Winter Games returned to Italy, the country last hosted the games in Cortina in 1956. In February 2006, Torino and eight other locations in Piermonte region were venues for 15 Olympic disiplines. No Olympic are today without their official coin program. For Italy this is the first time as a host to issue commemorative Olympic coins. The program consist of totally 11 coins, 6 silver-coins (3x5 and 3x10 Euro) issued as pairs and 5 gold-coins (3 pcs. 20 Euro and 2 pcs. 50 Euro). Each obverse have their own design, the silver coins showing major disiplines in the Olympic Winter Games, and the gold coins showing Torinos historical landmarks. Each reserve are depicting the stylised silhouette of the Mole Antonelliana, Torinos world famous tower landmark.
