During a period of 10 years, from 1999 to 2008 USA will issue a quarter dollar coin commemotating each of the states. Each 10 weeks a new issue and each year 5 new states. The coins are issued as the different states joined the union. Each coin has a special design for the state. The coins are minted both in Denver (D) and Philadelpia (P)

The Pennsylvania quarter, the second coin in the 50 State Quarters Program, depicts the statue "Commonwealth," an outline of the state, the state motto, and a keystone. This design was chosen to further help educate people about the origins of our second state, founded on December 12, 1787.
