The ´Mesa Grande´ is a respected and traditional tribe of Kumeyaay-Indians, whose people have been living in what is present-day California for more than 10,000 years now. Being one of the Native American tribes officially recognized by the United States of America, they enjoy the right to mint coins which are accepted as official currency within the afore-said respective territory. Portrayed on the 6 coins in total in the commemorative coin set are the most famous Indian chiefs of North America, namely: Geronimo, Sitting Bull, Quanah Parker, Black Hawk, Red Cloud and Crazy Horse.
