1000 kroner 2008 - DENMARK - The International Polaryear 2007-2009
To commemorate the International Polar Year 2007-2009, this coin has been struck by the Royal Danish Mint.
The motif is designed by Sculptor Margrete Sørensen and inspired by Sledge Patrol Sirius, which patrols a large area in the North Eastern part of Greenland. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik participated in the patrol in the year 2000. On 28 January 2008 HRH Crownprince Frederik stroke gold coin no. 1.
The coin is produced by gold from the Nalunaq Goldmine in Greenland. To the right to the denomination is placed a small mark: Polar Bear. The mark indicates that the coin is made of gold from Greenland.
