HRH Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton became engaged during a trip to Kenya in October 2010. Prince William carried the engagement ring-a stunning 18-carat sapphire surrounded by fourteen diamonds which had previously belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales-with him. Prince William asked Catherine to marry him in a manner she later said was "very romantic, and ... very personal." Clarence House announced the engagement to the world on November 16, 2010.
